A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DISTINGUISHED CAREER AND MERITORIOUS LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE OF DR. WAYNE BLANSETT, PROVIDED AS VICE PRESIDENT FOR STUDENT AFFAIRS AND ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF EDUCATION AT DELTA STATE UNIVERSITY UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, the Vice President for Student Affairs and Associate Professor of Education at Delta State University, an exceptional educator, Dr. Wayne Blansett, retires after a remarkably distinguished career of over 40 years of exemplary leadership and service at the premier state institution of higher learning in Cleveland, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, a graduate of Delta State University with a bachelor of science in education - social science, Dr. Blansett received a master of education - counseling and a doctor of education in professional studies also at Delta State University, and achieved advanced work at the University of Mississippi and the Harvard Institute of Educational Management; and

     WHEREAS, previous to his elevation to Vice President of Student Affairs in 1993, Dr. Blansett held the role of Dean of Student Affairs from 1990-1993, Associate Dean of Student Affairs from 1984-1990, Director of Student Activities from 1980-1984 and Assistant Dean of Students from 1975-1980; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Blansett is married to Diane, who served as a mathematics faculty member and Director of Academic Support Services at Delta State University, and they have two children, Melanie and Brian, and three grandchildren, Anna Woods Hebert, Mary Neal Hebert and Jackson Blansett; and

     WHEREAS, he is Past President of the Cleveland Noon Lions Club and Cleveland/Bolivar County United Way amongst many other notable community service positions and involvement, and has served as faculty advisor of Omicron Delta Kappa, and held membership in Kappa Delta Pi, Phi Delta Kappa, Delta State University Hall of Fame and Pi Kappa Alpha Social Fraternity; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend the tireless devotion to the betterment of Mississippi and honor the ardent vow to impeccable education that Dr. Blansett bestowed upon the citizens of Mississippi as a leader of one of its premier institutions of higher learning:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the distinguished career and meritorious leadership and service Dr. Wayne Blansett, provided as Vice President for Student Affairs and Associate Professor of Education at Delta State University upon the occasion of his retirement, and extend to him most sincere wishes for continued success and joy in the lighter days ahead.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. Wayne Blansett and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
