AN ACT TO CREATE A SPECIAL FUND IN THE STATE TREASURY TO BE KNOWN AS THE ACCREDITED LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES AWARD FUND; TO PROVIDE THAT THE FUND WILL BE ADMINISTERED BY THE OFFICE OF STANDARDS AND TRAINING OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY; TO PROVIDE THAT MONIES IN THE FUND WILL BE USED TO PAY A ONE-TIME AWARD TO EACH FULL-TIME SWORN LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER WHO IS A MEMBER OF A LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY THAT IS ACCREDITED BY THE MISSISSIPPI LAW ENFORCEMENT ACCREDITATION COMMISSION; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  There is created in the State Treasury a special fund to be known as the Accredited Law Enforcement Agencies Award Fund.  The fund shall be administered by the Office of Standards and Training of the Department of Public Safety, and monies in the fund shall be used, upon appropriation by the Legislature, to pay a one-time award of Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) to each full-time sworn law enforcement officer who is a member of a law enforcement agency that is accredited by the Mississippi Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission.  The fund shall consist of any monies made available by the Legislature and monies from any other source designated for deposit into the fund.  Money remaining in the fund at the end of a fiscal year shall not lapse into the State General Fund, and any interest earned from the investment of monies in the fund shall be deposited to the credit of the fund.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2015.
