Senate Concurrent Resolution 591

(As Adopted by Senate)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE LEWISBURG HIGH SCHOOL "PATRIOTS" GOLF TEAM AND COACH ADAM TIPTON FOR WINNING ITS SECOND CONSECUTIVE MHSAA CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, after torrential rains on May 1, 2013, it seemed unlikely that the MHSAA Class 4A Boys Golf State Championship could get in 18 holes at The Oaks Golf Club in Pass Christian to make it an official tournament.  With a break in the weather, the high school golfers were able to complete their first and only round on May 2, as Lewisburg High School captured its second straight golf title with a team score of 330.  Host St. Stanislaus finished in second place, three strokes off the winning pace.  Due to weather, the tournament was shortened from 36 holes to 18; and

WHEREAS, Lewisburg "Patriots" Coach Adam Tipton said he got great leadership from his seniors Tait Darby and Trey Wilkinson, who shot 82 and 84, respectively.  Parker Sewell, a sophomore, paced the Lewisburg scoring with a 78.  "Considering the conditions the last two days, I am happy with the way they played.  I don't think I could have been prouder when I sat at the first tee and watched all of them tee off"; and

WHEREAS, the 2013 Lewisburg High School Golf Team consists of Shange Outlaw, Tait Darby, Trey Wilkinson, Scott Hensley, Parker Sewell, Alex Gullett and Coach Adam Tipton; and

WHEREAS, it is with pride that we recognize this team of student athletes who for the second straight year has brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Lewisburg High School "Patriots" Golf Team and Coach Adam Tipton, and extend our best wishes to the team, parents and coaches for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Adam Tipton and Principal Chris Fleming for the team, forwarded to the DeSoto County Board of Education and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
