A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE LOUISVILLE HIGH SCHOOL "WILDCATS" FOOTBALL TEAM AND COACH M.C. MILLER FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Louisville High School "Wildcats" Football Team dominated opponents during the 2013 season, winning by more than 30 points per game. On December 7, 2013, Louisville left it all on the field, beating Hazlehurst in a slugfest 30-28 for the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A State Championship; and
WHEREAS, Coach M.C. Miller (45-12 in 4th season at Louisville, 208-115-4 in 29th season overall) told his senior class they would be in this position when they were 8th graders and his prediction came to fruition; and
WHEREAS, senior defensive tackle Malik Slaughter batted down Hazlehurst quarterback Jarvis Warner's two-point pass attempt with 41 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to preserve the 30-28 victory in the Class 3A Championship at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium. Jeremy Sangster finished with 13 tackles and a rushing touchdown; and
WHEREAS, it was Louisville's first Championship since 2008 and eighth overall, the most of any MHSAA school with the exception of South Panola High School; and
WHEREAS, the Wildcats, the fifth MHSAA team to finish 16-0, relied on their defense all season, manufacturing 7 shutouts in 15 games. But on the day it gave up its most points, Louisville's defense made its biggest play of the year. It was one of 3 key batted passes for Louisville, each of which affected the game's outcome. Miller, who coached Noxubee County to a title in 2008, stated "The defense might have bent, but it didn't break"; and
WHEREAS, individual statistics included: Rushing - Harris 23-111, Brooks 18-62, Roberts 14-37 and Sangster 2-3; Passing - Roberts 12-22-1-159; and Receiving - Goss 6-72, Jones 2-48, Harris 2-19 and Hudson 1-13; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this team of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the Louisville High School "Wildcats" Football Team and Coach M.C. Miller for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association 2013 Class 3A State Championship and for their undefeated season, and extend our best wishes to the players, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Miller, Principal Kyle Hammond, and to the Winston County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
