AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 99-7-15, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO CLARIFY AT WHAT POINT AN INDICTMENT BECOMES PUBLIC RECORD; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Section 99-7-15, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

     99-7-15.  An indictment returned into the clerk of the circuit court * * *, shall not be inspected by any person but the judge, clerk, district attorney, and sheriff, until the defendant shall have been arrested * * * or, has entered into bail or recognizance for the offense, or has made any other appearance in the matter whether in person or through counsel.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2014.
