A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING CARA CRAWFORD OF BRANDON, MISSISSIPPI, ON BEING NAMED A DISTINGUISHED FINALIST IN THE 2014 PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARDS.

     WHEREAS, Cara Crawford of Brandon, Mississippi, a senior at Jackson Preparatory School, recently achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer service by being named a Distinguished Finalist in the 2014 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and

     WHEREAS, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals to honor young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, now in its nineteenth year, emphasizes the importance of service to others and encourages all young Americans to contribute to their communities; and

     WHEREAS, Cara, one of more than 30,000 young people from across the country who participated in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program this year, earned the prestigious award by co-sponsoring, shortly after learning of her grandfather's cancer diagnosis, a 5K race that attracted more than 300 participants and raised nearly $13,000.00 for cancer research at the University of Mississippi Medical Center; and

     WHEREAS, the City of Brandon and Jackson Preparatory School are rightly proud to claim as one of their own, Cara Crawford, whose remarkable spirit of volunteerism may be looked to by peers in her community, school and the entire state as an outstanding example of selfless service to others; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to pay special recognition to exceptional young Mississippians such as Cara Crawford, a young adult of incredible leadership ability and compassion who represents the very best of America's youth and the future of our state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Cara Crawford of Brandon, Mississippi, on being named a Distinguished Finalist in the 2014 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards and extend to her best wishes for continued success in all of her academic, professional and personal endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Cara Crawford and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
