House Resolution 17

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING JUSTIN ODOM OF CLINTON JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL ON BEING NAMED THE CLINTON PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT'S 2013-2014 TEACHER OF THE YEAR.

WHEREAS, Justin Odom, a teacher at Clinton Junior High School, resident of Clinton, Mississippi, and a 2008 graduate of Mississippi College, has been named the Clinton Public School District's 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, through teaching pre-algebra, honors algebra and coaching the Clinton Junior High School's MATHCOUNTS team to national competitions, Mr. Odom works closely with a wide range of students, from those with extremely poor math skills to those who are very talented; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Odom, a 2004 graduate of Kingwood High School in Texas, enrolled at Mississippi College where he received the outstanding senior in mathematics student award for 2007-2008 and graduated magna cum laude, and went on a mission trip to India that had a big influence on his life and helped solidify his decision to become a teacher; and

WHEREAS, a fabulous teacher with a maturity beyond his years, Mr. Odom has been described by Clinton Junior High School Principal Anthony Goins as a teacher who, "does whatever it takes to ensure his students have had every opportunity to be successful in the classroom"; and

WHEREAS, the Clinton Junior High School and Clinton Public School District family are rightly proud to claim Mr. Odom as one of their own, and are inspired by the varied ways he is touching the lives of students both in the classroom and in their journey toward adulthood; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to pay special recognition to such an outstanding young Mississippian as Justin Odom, who uses his exceptional talent as an educator to better the lives of the children of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Justin Odom, mathematics teacher at Clinton Junior High School, on being named Clinton Public School District's 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year, and express best wishes for continued success in all of his future professional and personal endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Justin Odom, Clinton Junior High School and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
