House Concurrent Resolution 86

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING JENNY LOOME UPON BEING SELECTED AS CLINTON HIGH SCHOOL'S 2014 STAR STUDENT.

     WHEREAS, Jenny Loome, a vivacious and self-motivated senior at Clinton High School, has been selected as the school's 2014 STAR Student; and

     WHEREAS, the Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition Program (STAR) encourages the best and the brightest students, such as Jenny, in scholastic achievement; and

     WHEREAS, Jenny has shown by academic accomplishment that the pursuit and attainment of scholastic success are within the reach of the students in this state; and

     WHEREAS, Jenny, a gifted and extraordinary scholar of the "Mighty Home of the Arrows," is being recognized for superlative achievement due to her achieving a remarkable score of a perfect 36 on the American College Test (ACT), a true feat that is not easily attained; and

     WHEREAS, to be selected as a STAR student, a student must have obtained the highest score in one administration of the three-part Scholastic Aptitude Test and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of his or her class, criteria which Jenny has easily achieved; and

     WHEREAS, each school, such as Clinton High School, has one STAR Student who in turn has the opportunity to choose a STAR Teacher who has been inspiring and encouraging throughout that student's high school career, and Jenny has chosen a 19-year AP English language and literature teacher who has revitalized Jenny's love of reading, Mrs. Alix Williams, as the STAR Teacher of the Year for Clinton High School; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to her superb academic achievements, Jenny participates in a variety of activities at Clinton High School, some of which include the following:  Captain of the Academic Team, Treasurer and co-founder of the Cultural Awareness Society, President of the Honor Society, Vice President of Mu Alpha Theta and a member of the Model United Nations; and

     WHEREAS, Jenny, in addition to all of her extracurricular activities, is an avid reader who instructs tae kwon do and is involved at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Jackson, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, after graduation, Jenny plans to pursue a degree in biochemistry in hopes of becoming a high school chemistry teacher and to attend graduate school to conduct research in order to bring real application and scenarios to her future classroom, which speaks volumes of the forward-thinking of this innovative young woman; and

     WHEREAS, throughout all of her endeavors, both inside and outside the classroom, Jenny is lovingly supported by her parents, Jim and Nancy Loome; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize a dynamic young scholar such as Jenny who has personified the selfless dedication, mental agility, verbal dexterity and personal maturity necessary for superlative academic performance, and this state looks with great anticipation toward the future of this promising young citizen who brings great honor to her family, the Clinton Public School District and to this great state as a whole:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Jenny Loome upon being selected as Clinton High School's 2014 STAR Student, and wish her continued success in all of her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of the resolution be furnished to Jenny Loome, Clinton High School, Mrs. Alix Williams and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
