House Concurrent Resolution 82

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING VICTORIA VIVIANS UPON HER RECORD-BREAKING AND STELLAR HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL CAREER AT SCOTT CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL.

     WHEREAS, Victoria Vivians, the powerhouse six foot forward senior at Scott Central High School who has a beautiful smile that lights up a room, is being honored for her record-breaking and stellar basketball career, which undoubtedly will be reflected as one of the most rewarding careers for generations to come; and

     WHEREAS, Vivians, a native of Forest, Mississippi, who will graduate in May of 2014, has achieved national attention due to her ability to execute her God-given talents as the best basketball player in the state and arguably the nation; and

     WHEREAS, known for her drive to win and ultimately accomplishing most of those wins, Vivians has garnered national attention and has been scouted by teams from across the nation, but ultimately, she signed with one of the finest universities in the state, Mississippi State University, to continue her basketball career on the collegiate level; and

     WHEREAS, throughout Vivians' high school career, she has been inspired by Head Coach Chad Harrison who helped guide and lead Scott Central to state championship titles during Vivians' freshman and junior years with the prominent young lady at the forefront; and

     WHEREAS, Vivians, who is known for her unlimited three point shooting range, her aptitude to stop on a dime and shoot the mid-range jump and her ability to post up is truly the total package, which has only improved during her remarkable high school career despite being faced with double and triple teams from her opponents; and

     WHEREAS, Vivians' legendary athletic standing was solidified when she achieved from her eighth grade year to her senior year a final point total of 5,745, which is the highest points ever scored in the state's history for either boys or girls; and

     WHEREAS, during the final season of her high school career, Vivians achieved 1,617 total points and had 46.2 points per game, which earned her the status as the national leader in both categories, and additionally, Vivians, during her final season, had 500 total rebounds, 151 total steals and 65 total assists; and

     WHEREAS, notably, Vivians has received numerous awards, some of which include the following:  Parade All-American; Max Preps First Team All-American; Mississippi's ESPN/Gatorade Player of the Year; Mississippi's Miss Basketball; All-State; All District; State Championship MVP; The Clarion-Ledger Dandy Dozen; MAC North/South All-Star Game and MVP; MS/AL All-Star Game and MVP and  SchollyME All-World Game; and

     WHEREAS, in addition, Vivians has been a leading and second leading scorer in the nation and her high school jersey hung in the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Ring of Honor, and she has a permanent tribute in the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, which speaks volumes of the talent this extraordinary student athlete has executed throughout her high school career; and

     WHEREAS, Vivians has been lovingly supported by her family and friends, especially her number one fan, her father, Mr. John Vivians, who has supported her throughout her endeavors; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize talented and dynamic youth of this state such as Victoria Vivians, whose successes both on and off the basketball court not only bring great honor to her family and Scott Central but also bring great honor to this state as a whole:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby congratulate Victoria Vivians on her record-breaking and stellar basketball career and wish her success as she continues her remarkable career at Mississippi State University.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Miss Victoria Vivians, Head Coach Chad Harrison and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
