A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DISTINGUISHED CAREER AND EXEMPLARY LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE MR. IRWIN F. EDENZON PROVIDED AS CORPORATE VICE PRESIDENT OF HUNTINGTON INGALLS INDUSTRIES AND PRESIDENT OF INGALLS SHIPBUILDING UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, Huntington Ingalls Industries' Corporate Vice President and Ingalls Shipbuilding's President and exceptional leader, Mr. Irwin F. Edenzon, has announced plans for retirement after a remarkably distinguished career and exemplary leadership and service provided to the companies; and

     WHEREAS, named to the position in 2011, Mr. Edenzon has been responsible for all programs and operations at Ingalls Shipbuilding, including United States Navy destroyers, amphibious assault and surface combatant programs, and the United States Coast Guard's National Security Cutter program; and

     WHEREAS, for the years immediately prior to his appointment to the corporate vice president-president position, Mr. Edenzon, since 2008, served as sector Vice President and General Manager for Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding-Gulf Coast, and one year before this appointment, Edenzon served as the director of future carrier programs and as senior vice president of technology development and fleet support for Northrop Grumman-Newport News location; and

     WHEREAS, as director of future carrier programs and as senior vice president of technology development and fleet support Mr. Edenzon successfully led efforts to increase Newport News' strategic focus on and execution of fleet maintenance business that included surface ships, submarines and commercial ship repair, and upon his relocation to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, brought that same level of energy and commitment to the employees and clientele served by the Mississippi installment of the company; and

     WHEREAS, possessing a wealth of business savvy experience, negotiating ability and an extensive knowledge base in vessel productivity and longevity, Mr. Edenzon was vice president of business development for Textron Marine and earlier served as director of product line and contracts management at Sperry Marine before joining Northrop Grumman in 1997 as director of international programs; and

     WHEREAS, boasting quite an impressive resume of management expertise in business development and as contracts and programs specialist, Edenzon's curriculum vitae began in Florida having devoted 10 years to Perry Offshore, which developed and built saturation diving systems, manned submersibles and remotely controlled underwater vehicles for offshore service companies, the United States Navy and international navies; and

     WHEREAS, a magna cum laude graduate of Rutgers University where he received a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, Edenzon obtained a master's degree in business administration from Florida Atlantic University; and

     WHEREAS, an active member of the community, Edenzon received an Outstanding Community Leader of the Year Award for South Mississippi in 2009, and holds memberships with the Gulf Coast Business Council, Blueprint Mississippi Steering Council, Navy League of the United States and Shipbuilding Council of America and is an advisory board member for the University of Mississippi's Center for Manufacturing Excellence; and

     WHEREAS, the past Chairman of the USO of Hampton Roads' Board of Directors, he currently holds the chairman's position of the USO Gulf Coast Advisory Council and on the Board of Directors for the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce as well as the Special Olympics of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, in the capacity from which he now retires, Mr. Edenzon has performed a great service to every citizen of these United States by working for a company that designs, builds and maintains nuclear and nonnuclear ships for the United States Navy and Coast Guard and provides after-market services for military ships around the globe, with more than a century's history and reputation for crafting more ships in more ship classes than any other United States naval shipbuilder and which employs more than 38,000 individuals in the states of Virginia, Mississippi, Louisiana and California; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend the tireless devotion to economic productivity and commitment to leading by first being of service to his employees and clients as demonstrated by Mr. Edenzon:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the distinguished career and exemplary leadership and service Mr. Irwin F. Edenzon provided as Corporate Vice President of Huntington Ingalls Industries and President of Ingalls Shipbuilding upon the occasion of his retirement, and extend to him our most sincere wishes for continued success and joy in the lighter days ahead.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Irwin F. Edenzon and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
