A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MEMORIAL HOSPITAL AT GULFPORT, MISSISSIPPI, UPON RECEIVING NATIONAL RANKING AS BEST HOSPITAL IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI BY U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT.
WHEREAS, Memorial Hospital, one of the most comprehensive healthcare systems in the state, equipped with a 303-bed acute care hospital and a 33-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit and an outpatient surgery center, a 109-bed behavioral health facility, a medical office building, satellite outpatient diagnostic centers and more than 48 Memorial Physicians Clinics, recently received the distinct honor of being recognized by U.S. News & World Report as Best Hospital in the State of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, U.S. News & World Report analyzed data for nearly 5,000 healthcare facilities nationwide and released its 24th annual Best Hospitals rankings, recognizing hospitals that excel in treating patients who need an especially high level of care, ranking Memorial Hospital as No. 1 of the 116 hospitals that serve the residents of the State of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, U.S. News & World Report listed Memorial Hospital among the top hospitals in the nation for diabetes and endocrinology care, and was the only hospital in Mississippi to receive national recognition in any of the 16 medical specialties studied by U.S. News & World Report; and
WHEREAS, one of only 147 hospitals in the United States to receive a national ranking for any of the medical specialties that were measured, Memorial was rated as high-performing in gastroenterology and GI Surgery, geriatrics, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, pulmonology and urology; and
WHEREAS, Memorial scored high in patient safety, "demonstrating commitment to reducing accidents and medical mistakes" and scored higher than national and state averages in patient satisfaction categories, and the hospitals nursing staff received the highest ranking score in all high performing specialty categories evaluated by U.S. News & World Report; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to honor the administration and staff of such exceptional health care institutions as Memorial Hospital which provide extraordinary service to attending the individual medical needs of the citizens of this state who rely upon its expertise of care:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Memorial Hospital of Gulfport, Mississippi, upon receiving national ranking as Best Hospital in the State of Mississippi by U.S. News & World Report and extend best wishes for continued success in all of its future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Board of Trustees of the Memorial Hospital and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
