AN ACT TO ESTABLISH THE CHINESE LANGUAGE PILOT PROGRAM WITHIN THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FOR DEVELOPMENT IN THE OXFORD PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT; TO PROVIDE THAT THE PROGRAM SHALL BE ESTABLISHED FOR THE PURPOSE OF ALLOWING STUDENTS IN THE PROGRAM TO PARTICIPATE IN A NATIONALLY ACCREDITED CHINESE LANGUAGE CURRICULUM VIA LIVE TELECOMMUNICATION AND VIDEOCONFERENCING USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF MODERN LANGUAGES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) There is established within the State Department of Education a pilot program for the Oxford Public School District which will allow students to participate in a nationally accredited Chinese language curriculum via live telecommunication and videoconferencing to be used in conjunction with students, interns and faculty from the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Mississippi.
(2) The Superintendent of the Oxford Public School District shall select the school in which the pilot program is to be implemented and shall use any resources made available to the school district through gifts, bequests, grants or public and private donations to create and develop the pilot program and provide a coordinate peer structure within the program.
(3) No state funds shall be required to be appropriated for use in the establishment of the pilot program.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
