AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 97-15-27, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO ENHANCE THE PENALTY IMPOSED ON INDIVIDUALS FOR VIOLATING HUNTING RESTRICTIONS AS THOSE RESTRICTIONS APPLY TO THE HUNTING OR TARGET PRACTICE UPON OR WITHIN A CERTAIN DISTANCE OF ANY LEVEE STRUCTURE ERECTED BY THE BOARD OF LEVEE COMMISSIONERS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Section 97-15-27, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

     97-15-27.  If any person shall hunt or engage in target practice upon any levee structure erected by any board of levee commissioners, the entire landside right-of-way of * * * saidthe levee structure or the riverside right-of-way of * * * saidthe levee structure within a distance of two hundred (200) feet from the toe of * * *said the levee structure, such person or persons shall be guilty of amisdemeanor and  * * * Class I violation and, on conviction, shall be * * *fined not less than One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) nor more than Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) for each offense subject to the penalty imposed under Section 49-7-141 for such violation.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2014.
