Senate Resolution 2

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MARGARET CHAMBLISS FOR HER DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE.

     WHEREAS, Margaret Chambliss, from Jackson, Mississippi, served with distinction for 40 years in the Mississippi Senate (1973-2013).  It is with pride that we acknowledge the successful career of this public servant whose selfless service has been a blessing to the Mississippi Senate; and

     WHEREAS, Margaret is a woman of integrity and hard work, and is respected by all of her colleagues.  Margaret began her legislative career in 1973, when Senate employees were employed for the session only.  Her work ethic culminated in her being asked to become a full-time employee of the Senate and on May 1, 1977, she became a full-time employee of the Senate working in the Senate Docket Room; and

     WHEREAS, because of Margaret's professionalism and attention to detail, she was promoted to Assistant to the Senate Appropriations Committee working for Senator Bill Burgin; and

     WHEREAS, for many years, Margaret was Committee Assistant to Senator Bob Crook, whose Fees and Salaries Committee handled extremely important legislation including separation of governmental powers and the establishment of the Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration; and

     WHEREAS, Margaret was known and respected for her knowledge of the institutional history of the Senate and served as Assistant to two President Pro Tempores of the Mississippi Senate, Senator Tommy Gollott and Senator Billy Hewes; and

     WHEREAS, Margaret is a native of Noxubee County and had a successful career before she began serving the people of Mississippi in the Senate; and

     WHEREAS, Margaret was an avid golfer and won many tournaments.  Margaret is a devoted Christian and a supporter and member of Wells United Methodist Church for many years; and

     WHEREAS, Margaret's service has been marked by her commitment to the principles we all should live by and loyalty to those she served.  She has set the highest standard for those who strive to be public servants; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we note her commitment to service and the unwavering loyalty to those she served:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and recognize Margaret Chambliss, whose outstanding service enriched everyone with whom she was associated, and we wish Margaret much success in her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Margaret with affection and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
