Senate Resolution 1

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING BARBARA ALLISON WELLBORN FOR HER DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE.

     WHEREAS, Barbara Allison Wellborn from Jackson, Mississippi, served with distinction for 22 years in the Mississippi State Senate (1988-2013).  She came to the Senate when Brad Dye was Lieutenant Governor and when Charles Griffin was Secretary of the Senate.  It is with great pride that we acknowledge the successful career of this public servant whose selfless service has been a blessing to the Mississippi State Senate; and

WHEREAS, Barbara is a woman of integrity and hard work, and there is an acknowledged respect of our esteemed colleague, a gentlewoman and enlightened Senate employee.  Barbara also served on the staff of the Department of Human Services and brought expertise from the services provided by that agency to the Mississippi Senate.  Barbara served the Senate as an extremely effective Committee Assistant and was designated to many hardworking Senate committee chairmen, including Senators Billy Thames, Tommy Moffatt, Haskins Montgomery, Nickey Browning, Terry Brown and the late Ezell Lee; and

WHEREAS, a Richmond, Virginia, native, Barbara has had many great moments in her life, given her impressive body of work, professional accomplishments, personal sense of grace, community service, and is held as a precious jewel in the hands of all the many people whose lives she has touched; and

WHEREAS, Barbara was married to the late James M. Wellborn, Sr., (President of Kentwood Brick Louisiana) for over 40 years.  Barbara has two children, Christopher Wellborn (Suzanne), and Bradley Wellborn; and five grandchildren, Allison, Carolyn, James, Marshall and Elizabeth; and

     WHEREAS, Barbara has been a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, Jackson, Mississippi, choir member, Internationals Conversational English Class Teacher, former Docent at the Governor's Mansion, and a lifelong supporter of Reformed Theological Seminary; and

WHEREAS, Barbara's service has been marked by her commitment to success and recognized leadership, sound judgment, and fairness.  She has set the highest standard in all of her many roles:  as a mother, Committee Assistant, and her tireless support in the Mississippi Senate and as a true friend; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we note the accomplishments of this most gracious lady, who is to be honored for her record of achievement and legacy of kindness and dedication to all in Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and recognize Barbara Allison Wellborn, whose outstanding service enriched everyone with whom she was associated, and we wish Barbara and her family much success in their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Barbara with affection and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
