A RESOLUTION COMMENDING REPRESENTATIVE KELVIN O. BUCK, FOR HIS LEGISLATIVE LEGACY AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND UPON THE OCCASION OF BEING ELECTED MAYOR OF HOLLY SPRINGS, MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, Representative Kelvin O. Buck is a respected member of the Mississippi House of Representatives who is leaving his distinguished colleagues after eight years of service to serve as the newly elected Mayor of his hometown of Holly Springs, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, born on July 23, 1961, in Tupelo, Mississippi, he attended Rust College, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in mass communications and a masters degree in public policy and administration; and

     WHEREAS, the quintessential public servant, Representative Buck is passionate about providing solutions to improve the lives of his constituents and citizens of this state; and

     WHEREAS, before being elected to the as a Representative, he served six years as Alderman for Holly Springs and twelve years in the United States Marine Corps; and

     WHEREAS, he has served as a Sub-Committee Chairman of the House Education Committee, in which he co-authored the Children's First Act, which led to major improvements in K-12 public education; and

     WHEREAS, he also diligently served as the Chairman of the University and Colleges Committee, which allowed him to lead the  oversight of all eight four-year colleges and 15 community colleges; and

     WHEREAS, a sincere advocate for families, he has helped  individual families connect with state agencies and mediated their issues regarding veterans benefits, mental health issues, college admittance issues, family members in correctional facilities, special needs children education issues, utility bill assistance issues, affordable housing program issues and predatory lending issues; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Buck will now lead the citizens of Holly Springs as their Mayor and will execute the necessary tasks to improve the city and the quality of life of its citizens; and

     WHEREAS, he is lovingly supported by his wife, the honorable Representative Kimberly Buck, and their children:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That we do hereby commend our friend and colleague, Representative Kelvin O. Buck for all of his dedicated service to the Mississippi State Legislature, his unmatched contributions to the citizens of this great State and congratulate him upon being elected Mayor of Holly Springs, Mississippi.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Representative Kelvin O. Buck, Representative Kimberly C. Buck and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
