A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING CHEVRON PASCAGOULA REFINERY ON THE OCCASION OF ITS 50TH ANNIVERSARY AS A LEADER IN THE PETROLEUM INDUSTRY.

     WHEREAS, Chevron Pascagoula Refinery celebrates its 50th Anniversary in 2013, having grown to be the corporation's largest United States refinery and one of the top ten petroleum refineries in the United States; and

     WHEREAS, the refinery's success is built upon business and community partnerships with the people of Jackson County, as well as production of quality products in ways that are compatible with the community and the environment; and

     WHEREAS, at the heart of the Pascagoula Refinery's success are its employees and their commitment to The Chevron Way; and

     WHEREAS, Chevron Pascagoula Refinery has a significant economic impact in Jackson County, Mississippi, each year, including in 2012:  $40.8 Million paid in county and school taxes; approximately 1,565 people employed, with a total payroll of $350 Million, and approximately $354.5 Million spent on local goods and services; and

     WHEREAS, the Pascagoula Refinery continues to demonstrate its long-standing support of environmental conservation through contributions to the Pascagoula River Audubon Center and Mississippi Flyway, as well as generous gifts to The Nature Conservancy and other environmental advocacy programs; and

     WHEREAS, the Chevron Pascagoula Refinery has been an advocate of education, including championing early childhood education initiatives such as Excel By 5, and promoting the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) curriculum through programs like Project Lead the Way and the gift of STEM grants to local school districts; and

     WHEREAS, the Chevron Pascagoula Refinery has been a fixture in Jackson County for 50 years, and it is with great pride that we join the business community in the State of Mississippi in marking this landmark event:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize Chevron Pascagoula Refinery in Jackson County, Mississippi, on the occasion of its 50th Anniversary as a leader in the national and international petroleum refinery industry and partner with state and local government, and extend our best wishes to this excellent corporate citizen on this auspicious occasion.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Pascagoula Refinery General Manager Tom Kovar, forwarded to the Mississippi Development Authority, the Jackson County Board of  Supervisors, the Mayor and City Council of Pascagoula, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
