Senate Concurrent Resolution 605

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE HERITAGE ACADEMY "PATRIOTS" FOOTBALL TEAM AND FIRST-YEAR COACH BARRETT DONAHOE FOR WINNING THE 2012 MAIS CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, Graham McCain had a 30-yard field goal, Hudson Bean scored on a 3-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, and Taylor Fields' sack in the final minutes provided the exclamation point on November 9, 2012, in Heritage Academy's 10-3 victory against Magnolia Heights Academy in the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Class AAA, Division 2 State Title at Mississippi College's Robinson-Hale Stadium; and

WHEREAS, the victory helped the Heritage Academy "Patriots" Football Team (7-5) finish the season on a five-game winning streak and secure its first State Title since 1986. This season also was the Columbus, Mississippi, program's first time back in the playoffs since 2005; and

WHEREAS, the Heritage Academy Football Team accomplished the goal it had in mind all season: It gave coach Barrett Donahoe a Gatorade moment he will always remember. The dousing Donahoe received came minutes after one of the Patriots' most dominating defensive efforts of the season on the state's biggest stage. It all came in Donahoe's first season as Head Coach at the school; and

WHEREAS, Heritage Academy's 2012 Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Class AAA All-District Team members: First Team: Wesley Swedenberg, OL; Miller Puckett, RB; Parker Dunaway, WR, KR, DB; Cade Lott, QB; and Taylor Fields, TE; Second Team: Taylor Fields, DE; and Hudson Bean, DB; and Honorable Mention: Marshall Tomlison, OL; Hudson Bean, WR; David Hardy, DE; Wesley Swedenberg, DT; and Cade Lott, DB; and

WHEREAS, the Heritage Academy Patriots 2012 High School Football Roster is: Cade Lott, Mattox Heredia, Colby Upton, Hayden Peel, Wesley Swedenburg, Hunter Sykes, Hunter Ferguson, William Hardy, Walker Brown, Hudson Bean, Patrick Mallory, Parker Dunaway, David Hardy, Cayden Upton, Taylor Fields, Miller Puckett and Brady Clark; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Heritage Academy "Patriots" Football Team and first-year Coach Barrett Donahoe for winning the 2012 Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Class AAA State Championship, and extend to the players, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Donoahoe and Headmaster Dr. Greg Carlyle for the team and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
