Senate Concurrent Resolution 603

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BAY HIGH "TIGERS" GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM FROM BAY ST. LOUIS, MISSISSIPPI, AND COACH DEBBI TRIPLETT FOR WINNING THE CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, THEIR UNDEFEATED 2012-2013 SEASON, AND FOR THEIR NO. 1 SUPER 10 RANKING.

WHEREAS, Bay High Tigers Girls Basketball Team No. 1 in The Clarion-Ledger Super 10, completed a dream season of 36-0 by defeating Pontotoc 65-42 for the Class 4A Girls State Championship at the Mississippi Coliseum; and

WHEREAS, on March 8, 2013, a year's worth of long hours and hard work paid off.  "I'm just proud of them and thankful for this year," said Bay High Coach Debbie Triplett.  "It's been a blessing to go through the season without any injuries and to make it this far"; and

WHEREAS, after spending a year dominating the competition, they fully expected to win a State Championship.  Bay High's 5 starters played the entire game in the convincing victory.  Pontotoc (31-4) played Bay High close for the first half, but the Lady Tigers took over the game in the third quarter.  Terrica Williams, who was named the game's MVP, added 6 of her game-high 18 points in the quarter, giving Bay High a 50-33 lead heading into the final quarter; and

WHEREAS, Bay High's title win allowed Christa Reed to join the family club.  Reed's 3 sisters all won a State Championship while at the school, and there was a bit of pressure for her to join in.  Reed's 17 points and 10 rebounds made the dream of a championship ring of her own a reality; and

WHEREAS, Christa Reed of Bay High has been named Mississippi's Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year.  Reed, a 5'11" junior, led the Lady Tigers (36-0) to the Class 4A State Championship this season while averaging 23.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 3.3 steals per game; and

WHEREAS, the 2012-2013 Bay High "Tigers" Girls Basketball Team Roster is:  Aerion Dority, Simone Jackson, Terrica Williams, Elese Dorsey, Jamaya Galloway, Bretta Hart, Breanna Smith, Ashley Jorden, Taaja Conerly, Alleigh Breckley, Christa Reed and Briana Pinkston; Head Coach Debbie Triplett; Assistant Coaches:  Sara Gilmore and Suzy Gilmore; Managers:  Kendra May, Tynisha Johnson and Brenae Galloway; and Athletic Director Will Seymour; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this special achievement by a group of talented student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their Bay St. Louis community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Bay High "Tigers" Girls Basketball Team and Coach Debbi Triplett for winning the MHSAA Class 4A State Championship, for their undefeated 36-0 2012-2013 season, and for their Clarion-Ledger Super 10 No. 1 Ranking, and extend our best wishes to the players, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.
