Senate Concurrent Resolution 599

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS AND COMMENDING THE LEGACY OF PUBLIC SERVICE OF JULIA SHAW GREEN OF NESBIT, MISSISSIPPI, RESPECTED TEACHER AND CONGRESSIONAL CONSTITUENT LIAISON FOR MISSISSIPPI SENATOR ROGER WICKER.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Julia Shaw Green of Nesbit, Mississippi, respected educator and Congressional Constituent Liaison for Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker, passed away on March 9, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Judy was born in Lambert, Mississippi, on October 11, 1948, to Clyde Edwin Shaw and Mildred Estelle Walton Shaw; and

WHEREAS, she taught high school English for 25 years and was the Congressional Constituent Liaison for Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker for 13 years; and

WHEREAS, Judy earned both her Bachelor of Arts and Master in Education Degrees from Delta State University. Judy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who loved being with and caring for her family; and

WHEREAS, she was active in the First Baptist Church of Olive Branch, a member of the Olive Twig Philanthropic Group, and a devoted fan of Olive Branch Conquistador sports; and

WHEREAS, she was inspirational to the careers and aspirations of Senators Bill Hawks, Merle Flowers and David L. Parker, and Representatives Wanda Jennings and Forest Hamilton; and

WHEREAS, Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Estelle Shaw, and two brothers, Jerry and Gillespie Shaw. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Jimmy Green, and son, Bret Green (Alisha). Judy also leaves two granddaughters, Reagan and Harper, who were the light of her life. She also leaves a sister, Mildred Respess, and four brothers: Edwin, Eugene, Wesley and Malcolm; a sister-in-law, Francis White; as well as several nieces and nephews; and

WHEREAS, it is with sadness that we note the passing of this wonderful example for public servants:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby mourn the loss and commend the legacy of public service of Mrs. Julia Shaw Green of Nesbit, Mississippi, and commend her record of achievement, leadership and dedication to all citizens of the State of Mississippi, and extend our sympathy to her surviving family and friends on her passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family, forwarded to Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
