A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING JORDAN SANDERSON FOR BEING SELECTED AS INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR AT THE JACKSON COUNTY CAMPUS OF MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE.
WHEREAS, Jordan Sanderson, a resident of Moss Point, Mississippi, has been selected as Instructor of the Year at the Jackson County Campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in recognition of his distinguished service to the college; and
WHEREAS, the award was established by the Alumni Association of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to honor instructors at the college, and the recipient of the award is chosen from nominations submitted by students, faculty and administrators on the basis of their teaching excellence, college service, community service and professional development; and
WHEREAS, Jordan Sanderson, a Language Arts Instructor, has been employed at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for the past four years and has taught for the past nine years as a traditional classroom and online instructor; and
WHEREAS, Jordan Sanderson received his Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts and his Doctorate of Philosophy from The University of Southern Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Jordan Sanderson serves as a member of the Vice President's Advisory Committee and Black History Committee, and is a Creative Writing class and Employee Development presenter. He is the adviser to the following organizations: Phi Theta Kappa, Circle K, and College Republicans; and
WHEREAS, Jordan Sanderson is a member of the Two-Year College English Association of Mississippi; Mississippi Faculty Association, National Council of Teachers of English, Popular Culture Association and Wallace Stevens Society; and
WHEREAS, Jordan Sanderson is a published author in a variety of poetry and critical-review anthologies, has organized a 5k run to benefit Shepard State Park, is a mentor with the Jackson County Civic Action Committee, a Lector at St. Pierre's Episcopal Church in Gautier; a participant in a benefit for the Jackson County Literacy Council, and fundraiser for Superstorm Sandy Relief and the American Heart Association - Jackson County; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this professional educator, who has dedicated his career to teaching the young people of this state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Jordan Sanderson for being selected as Instructor of the Year at the Jackson County Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, and extend to him our heartiest wishes for success in all his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Jordan Sanderson, forwarded to the Board of Trustees of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
