A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING BRYAN HAWKINS, FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT OF HAWKEYE INDUSTRIES IN TUPELO, MISSISSIPPI, AS 2012-2013 CHAIRMAN OF THE MISSISSIPPI MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION.

     WHEREAS, Bryan Hawkins is Founder and President of Hawkeye Industries, Inc., in Tupelo, Mississippi.  In business since 1995, Hawkeye Industries is a "high-tech" Outsource Electronics Manufacturing (OEM) contract manufacturer of precision fabricated sheet metal components and assemblies for a wide variety of manufacturers.  A native of Tupelo and a 1970 graduate of Tupelo High School, Bryan earned his Bachelor's and Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Mississippi.  In 1999, Bryan retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the Mississippi Army National Guard where he served for 23 years as a helicopter pilot holding various command and staff positions in army aviation; and

     WHEREAS, Hawkeye Industries has been selected, during biannual reviews by the Mississippi Business Journal, as one of Mississippi's Top 40 fastest growing privately held businesses in 1999, 2001 and 2005.  In 2003, Bryan was selected by the United States Small Business Administration to represent the State of Mississippi as their Small Business Person of the Year in Washington, D.C.  Since 2004, Bryan has been on the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Manufacturers Association.  He also serves on the board of the Nuts, Bolts and Thingamajigs Foundation, the charitable arm of the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, which is dedicated to the development and promotion of education and awareness programs geared toward current and future manufacturing career development; and

     WHEREAS, Bryan actively attends The Orchard, a United Methodist congregation, where he serves in various leadership positions and other activities.  He also serves as a member of the Renasant Bank Community Board and is the State Treasurer of the Magnolia Chapter of the Army Aviation Association of America.  Since his retirement from the Mississippi National Guard in 1999, Bryan has continuously been an unselfish and active supporter of numerous activities in support of the Armed Services and particularly the Mississippi Army National Guard.  In 2003, Bryan was awarded the National Guard Association of America's Patrick Henry Award, which recognizes exemplary support of the National Guard by retired members.  He also serves and assists with various professional and community organizations, including Northeast Mississippi Community Development Foundation, Future Focus Community Investment, ICC Workforce Development Board, Tupelo Academy of Dance Arts, Mississippi Economic Council, National Federation of Independent Business, and the United States Chamber of Congress; and

     WHEREAS, he is married to the former Brenda Garner of Russellville, Kentucky, who also serves as Secretary/Treasurer and Office Manager of Hawkeye Industries.  Bryan and Brenda have been married since 1978 and are the proud parents of three sons:  Jim, Alan and Marc; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we pay tribute to this most public spirited citizen of Mississippi whose enormous civic energy is a wonderful example for all in our state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Bryan Hawkins, Founder and President of Hawkeye Industries, Inc., in Tupelo, Mississippi, as the 2012-2013 Chairman of the Mississippi Manufacturers Association, and extend our best wishes to Bryan and his family on this high honor.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Bryan Hawkins, forwarded to the Executive Director of the Mississippi Manufacturers Association and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
