AN ACT TO DIRECT THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO CONDUCT A STUDY ON THE FEASIBILITY OF TOLL ROADS AND THE TYPES OF FUNDING TO BE USED; TO CONTRACT WITH CONSULTANT; TO MAKE THE STUDY CONTINGENT ON FUNDS MADE AVAILABLE BY AN APPROPRIATION FROM THE LEGISLATURE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  The Mississippi Department of Transportation is directed to conduct a study of the feasibility of toll roads in the southern-Gulf Coast area, the central-Jackson Metro area and the northern-Tupelo area of the state. The study shall also examine whether toll roads should be funded with public, private or public-private partnership capital.

     (2)  The Mississippi Department of Transportation may hire consultants to conduct the study and shall conduct the study or hire consultants only if funds are made available by an appropriation of the Legislature.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
