House Resolution 163

A RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING MRS. ANNIE OPAL HOOD, LOVINGLY REFERRED TO AS "GRANNY HOOD," ON THE OCCASION OF HER 93RD BIRTHDAY AND EXPRESS SINCERE WISHES FOR SUSTAINED HEALTH, JOY, PEACE AND PROSPERITY FOR YEARS TO COME.

     WHEREAS, March 27, 2013, was a momentous day, as it was the day that Mrs. Annie Opal Hood, a matriarch and friend, who is lovingly referred to as "Granny Hood" to most in the community, was blessed to celebrate 93 years of life; and

     WHEREAS, she was born one of seven children to Louis and Eula Mae Coggins Abbott on March 27, 1920, with five brothers and one sister; and

     WHEREAS, in 1940, she married the love of her life, Mr. O.B. Hood, to whom she remained married for 69 years until his death on June 17, 2009; and

     WHEREAS, truly a virtuous woman, she was a devoted wife for 69 years who worked alongside her husband in farming and turbines and public works, and was also a loving mother to their seven children, Arvis, Ruth, Lunette, James, Bobby, Mary and Kenneth; and

     WHEREAS, Granny Hood has seen the transformational changes of the United States of America, and has relied wholeheartedly on God as the driving force to sustain and power her through life's circumstances, trials and triumphs; and

     WHEREAS, her profound faith has motivated her to lead an exemplary life and she taught her children to lead this same exemplary life so that her family's values of Christian love and kindness to all would flow to each generation; and

     WHEREAS, as evidence of her faith, she is active in church activities, attributes her life's good health to never having a headache nor major surgery during 93 years of life on this earth; and

     WHEREAS, young at heart, spirit and energy, she keeps busy with her hobbies of making ceramics and collecting hummingbird figurines and keeps them as gifts and treasures for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and

     WHEREAS, her life's dedication and love for her family is greatly appreciated by her seven children, 18 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren, who wish her continued good health, happiness and many birthdays to come; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the life of such an outstanding individual as Mrs. Annie Opal Hood, whose attributes reflect the love of Christ and impart the values of self-assuredness, perseverance, service and benevolence, into the lives of all she has encountered along this journey:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby congratulate Mrs. Annie Opal Hood, lovingly referred to as "Granny Hood," on the occasion of her 93rd birthday and express sincere wishes for sustained health, joy, peace and prosperity for many years to come.

      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Annie Opal Hood and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
