House Resolution 161

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING AUSTIN POWELL OF CORINTH, MISSISSIPPI, ON BEING NAMED EAGLE SCOUT OF THE YEAR BY THE DEPARTMENT OF MISSISSIPPI OF THE VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS OF THE UNITED STATES.

     WHEREAS, Austin Powell of Corinth, Mississippi, a member of the Chicksa District of the Yocona Area Council, was named Eagle Scout of the Year by the Department of Mississippi of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States; and

     WHEREAS, Austin has been a scout for a number of years, and as evidenced by the receipt of the Eagle Scout Award on July 11, 2011, his list of community service and extracurricular activities indicates the bright future that exists for this young Mississippian; and

     WHEREAS, throughout his years as a Boy Scout, Austin has fulfilled his duties and obligations of maintaining and promoting the mission and vision of the Boy Scouts of America by earning the required merit badges; and

     WHEREAS, Austin is a remarkable student and citizen, who has received the Messenger of Peace Award, the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, the Eagle Bronze Palm Award, the Junior Leadership Alcorn County Perfect Attendance Award, the Mississippi Governor's School Award of Excellence, the Discus Award and the Presidential Community Service Award; and

     WHEREAS, as a testament to the leadership of this young man, he has been named Student Body President at Corinth High School and Lieutenant Governor at American Legion Boys State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend young Mississippians, such as Austin Powell, who has attained scouting's highest rank, and in doing so, brings honor to his family, school, community and the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Austin Powell of Corinth, Mississippi, upon being named the Eagle Scout of the Year by the Department of Mississippi of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and extend sincere wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Austin Powell and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
