A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING VICTORIA VIVIANS ON BEING CROWNED MISS BASKETBALL OF MISSISSIPPI AND BEING RECOGNIZED AS ONE OF THE TOP PLAYERS IN THE NATION.
WHEREAS, Victoria Vivians, a 6-foot junior at Scott Central High School, has been named Miss Basketball in Mississippi and she is ranked as one of the top basketball players in the nation by Collegiate Girls Report and ESPN HoopGurlz; and
WHEREAS, Vivians averaged 39.7 points a game for the 2012-2013 season which is a state record and the second highest mark in the nation this year and in a January contest against Lake she scored a career-high 62 points in Scott Central's 69-67 victory; and
WHEREAS, she led the Scott Central High School Lady Rebels to the Class 2A state title scoring 42 points in Scott Central's remarkable 52-49 comeback victory over New Site which is her second state title after helping the Lady Rebels win the title as a freshman; and
WHEREAS, she is on pace to shatter the career scoring mark in the state with a current total of 4,138 points, 877 shy of the career record of 5,015; and
WHEREAS, Victoria did not always like to shoot but Scott Central coach Chad Harrison worked with her and helped her find her niche as a shooter; and
WHEREAS, as a result of her hard work and talent, college coaches from all over the country are interested in signing her to take her talents into the college ranks; and
WHEREAS, Victoria considers herself to be a "daddy's girl" off the court and her father, John Vivians, is her biggest fan, keeping the superstar levelheaded with his loving encouragement for her basketball and reminding her that education is a priority; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by such exemplary accomplishments such as those of Victoria Vivians:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Victoria Vivians on being named Miss Basketball in the State of Mississippi and for being recognized as one of the top players in the nation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Victoria Vivians, Scott Central High School and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
