A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF ARCHIVES AND HISTORY AND ITS VOLUNTEER PROGRAM FOR THEIR SERVICE AS AMBASSADORS AND HOSPITALITY SPECIALISTS AT THE STATE CAPITOL.
WHEREAS, the Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH)and its outstanding volunteer program are being honored for providing excellent services as ambassadors and hospitality specialists at the State Capitol; and
WHEREAS, in the summer of 2012, the Legislature invited MDAH and its volunteers to establish an ambassador/hospitality station on the first floor of the Capitol to work with the Capitol Curator and Visitor Services Coordinator to serve visitors to this great state and its magnificent Capitol building; and
WHEREAS, without hesitation and while graciously fulfilling the request, the MDAH volunteer/docent program was established at the Capitol; and
WHEREAS, the MDAH volunteers' extensive knowledge, generous warmth and people skills have wonderfully demonstrated that the State of Mississippi is truly the hospitality state; and
WHEREAS, many of the MDAH volunteers, who additionally serve multiple other MDAH sites, steadfastly provide visitor information and guided tours to the public at our Capitol; and
WHEREAS, noticeably, the busy activity of the 2013 Legislative Session did not hinder the quality of the services that MDAH volunteers were able to provide, which speaks volumes of the tenacity and caliber of the volunteer; and
WHEREAS, the House of Representatives recognizes that the MDAH volunteers are a role model for volunteer engagement everywhere and that the volunteers are, from this point forward, considered to officially be a part of the Mississippi State Capitol family:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend MDAH volunteers for their superb service as the official ambassadors and hospitality specialists for the State Capitol.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
