A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MR. DROKE WILSON AND EXPRESSING SYMPATHY UPON HIS PASSING.
WHEREAS, a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and former statesman, was lost on February 28, 2013, when Mr. Droke Wilson made life's transition from earthly travailing to heavenly reward to be with his Lord and Savior; and
WHEREAS, blessed to reach the age of 89, Mr. Wilson lived a long and prosperous life, spiritually and physically; and
WHEREAS, a true public servant, he served in the United States Army during World War II and proudly wore the title World War II veteran; and
WHEREAS, a longtime resident of Senatobia during his life, Mr. Wilson was well-known throughout the community as a hard worker who cared for all; and
WHEREAS, his life of public service continued when he was elected to serve as a distinguished member of the Mississippi House of Representatives from 1948-1952; and
WHEREAS, as a member of the Mississippi House, he worked diligently on Constitution, Judiciary A, Drainage, and Juvenile Delinquency and Child Welfare Committees; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wilson was a passionate advocate for children during his tenure, sponsoring bills to provide aid to public libraries and to provide funding for the construction and repair of school buildings; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wilson also sponsored legislation that validated the organization of the DeSoto Natural Gas District and cosponsored legislation which provided for registration of political parties with the Secretary of State's office; and
WHEREAS, a dutiful man of God, he was a faithful Christian who was an active member of First Baptist Church of Senatobia, Mississippi, where he always made himself available to serve in a Christ-like manner to care for the members of the church and execute church duties; and
WHEREAS, to cherish his memory, he leaves his daughter, Judith; and sons, James, Jon and Joseph; his sister, Lucille; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor the lives of our citizens who have fought for this country, honorably represented the needs of our citizens and provided positive leadership in the community:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That we do hereby commend the life and legacy of Mr. Droke Wilson and express sympathy upon his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. Droke Wilson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
