House Resolution 133

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING CHRISTA REED ON BEING NAMED GATORADE MISSISSIPPI GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR.

WHEREAS, Christa Reed, a student at Bay High School in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, was honored as the Gatorade Mississippi Girls Basketball Player of the Year; and

WHEREAS, the award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court, distinguishes Reed as Mississippi's best high school girls basketball player and makes her a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year award announced in March; and

WHEREAS, the 5-foot-11 junior guard and forward led the Lady Tigers to a 36-0 record and the Class 4A State Championship this past season, averaging 23.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 3.3 steals per game while shooting at 55.1 percent from the floor inside the arc, and as the Class 4A Offensive Player of the Year, she scored 17 points in a 65-42 win over Pontotoc in the state final; and

WHEREAS, Reed has maintained a 4.12 GPA in the classroom, is an accomplished guitarist, is the president of her church youth group, has served as a member of her school's student government organization and has volunteered locally on behalf of multiple community service initiatives in association with the National Honor Society; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the outstanding accomplishments of a remarkable citizen of our state such as Christa Reed:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Christa Reed upon being named Gatorade Mississippi Girls Basketball Player of the Year and extend best wishes for continued success in her senior season and in all of her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Christa Reed and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
