House Resolution 79

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING TERRY CARTWRIGHT OF CORINTH, MISSISSIPPI, UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM BANCORP SOUTH.

     WHEREAS, Terry Cartwright has announced his retirement from his long-held position as President of Bancorp South but he has assured the people of Corinth, Mississippi, that he will not retire from the community service that has made him one of Corinth's most respected citizens; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Cartwright has been part of the Corinth community since September 1980, when he transferred to Bancorp South in Corinth after working for eight years in the Tupelo branch of the bank; and

     WHEREAS, Cartwright was born in Prentiss County, Mississippi, but after more than 32 years of living in Corinth and serving the community tirelessly in many ways, he now considers Corinth as his home; and

     WHEREAS, his community service includes involvement with the Lighthouse Foundation since its beginning and he served as the organization's president in 2003; and

     WHEREAS, he has been a mentor to at-risk youth, he has helped provide a better Christmas for needy children and he was active in establishing athletic programs for Alcorn County students; and

     WHEREAS, Cartwright, a 1965 Booneville High School graduate, has also devoted much of his time in service to the Corinth Rotary Club where he served as president and to The Alliance community development foundation where he served as CEO; and

     WHEREAS, his honest, humble, forthright and passionate demeanor has endeared him to all in the Corinth community and his service has left a permanent legacy of goodwill which will serve the citizens for generations to come; and

     WHEREAS, the longtime bank president looks forward to joining his wife, Gloria, in retirement and their plans include spending more time with their grandchildren in Alabama; and

     WHEREAS, Terry Cartwright is a lifelong cowboy who has been involved with the local 4-H Club and participates with a cutting horse association that is based in Verona, Mississippi, and retirement will allow him to spend more time with his beloved horses; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend exemplary citizens such as Terry Cartwright upon achieving lifetime milestones:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Terry Cartwright upon his retirement and extend best wishes in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Terry Cartwright and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
