A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE CHARLESTON HIGH SCHOOL TIGERS FOOTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH TONY VANCE FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2012 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 3A NORTH MISSISSIPPI CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium, the Charleston High School Tigers Football Team won the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A North Mississippi Championship by defeating Eastside High School from Cleveland, Mississippi, in a convincing victory by a score of 56-0 on the strength of an explosive offense and a ferocious defense; and

     WHEREAS, for Charleston, the win marked the Tigers' second consecutive North Mississippi title and helped them finish the season with an impressive 14-2 record; and

     WHEREAS, the Tigers have been difficult to beat over the past four seasons, finishing the 2011 season with the MHSAA Class 3A State Championship, the 2010 season with a strong 11-2 record and earning an impressive 13-1 record in 2009; and

     WHEREAS, Head Coach Tony Vance has been ably assisted by the following assistant coaches:  Michael Dogan, Scott Martin, LaDon Taylor, Rusty Smith and Kevin Farmer; and supported by Principals Marshall Whittemore and Michael Hargett, and Superintendent Ellis H. (Bucky) Smith; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend such a superb group of student athletes and their coaches, all of whom have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Charleston High School Tigers Football Team and Head Coach Tony Vance for their outstanding 2012 season, for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A North Mississippi Championship and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Charleston High School, Head Coach Tony Vance and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
