House Resolution 31

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE RIDGELAND HIGH SCHOOL LADY TITANS SOCCER TEAM FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND FOR WINNING THEIR NINTH CHAMPIONSHIP SOCCER TITLE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

WHEREAS, the dynamic Ridgeland High School Lady Titans Soccer Team completed the 2012-2013 season by once again capturing the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 5A Girls Soccer championship title; and

WHEREAS, after performing extremely well in the state play offs, the Lady Titans during the championship game, due in large part to their stellar defense, defeated South Jones with a score of 1-0; and

WHEREAS, this epic defeat of the Lady Braves by the Lady Titans, is the Titans ninth state championship in the program's 11-year history, which enables the Lady Titans to continue their dynasty of winning championships; and

WHEREAS, as the 2013 MHSAA girls soccer champions, the Lady Titans have made history within the association by having earned nine soccer titles, which speaks volumes of the tenacity and strength of this consistent and thorough team; and

WHEREAS, the incredible 2013 state championship win for Ridgeland was due in large part by its stellar defense, which was led by Rhae'Ven Ellis and Olivia Travis; and Mary Ashton Lembo scored the lone goal in the final minute of the first half; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Titans, ranked No. 9 in The Clarion-Ledger rankings and outscored their opponents 10-0 in the playoff, which demonstrates the discipline and hard work this vibrant soccer team exhibited throughout the season; and

WHEREAS, in their tireless dedication, the Lady Titans have developed a winning, cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitudes reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coach, bringing great honor to Ridgeland High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our great state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Ridgeland High School Lady Titans Soccer Team and Head Coach Jonathan Branch for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 5A Girls Soccer championship title, and for winning their ninth championship soccer title in 11 years; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That we do hereby applaud the remarkable nine championship soccer titles held by the Lady Titans, and extend best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Coach Branch, Principal Sharon Summers, the Madison County School District and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
