House Concurrent Resolution 75

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING CHRISTIE STRICKER ON BEING SELECTED AS THE 2012 STATE GAMES OF MISSISSIPPI AT&T FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR.

WHEREAS, Christie Stricker has been selected as the 2012 Female Athlete of the Year demonstrating determination, strength, stamina, endurance and discipline which are the qualities of the State Games of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, the State Games selects male and female nominees for athlete of the year from each of the 34 sports represented and Christie won that prestigious award and also brought home eight medals, six gold and two silver, in eight different events; and

WHEREAS, this year Christie competed in track and field, 5K, cross-country, cycling and powerlifting adding her eight medals to her growing collection of medals from the last five years; and

WHEREAS, Christie became the first in her athletic family to complete a full marathon, and she also holds the title for her age and weight-class for the state in powerlifting; and

WHEREAS, Christie is in her junior year of high school in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and she runs on the cross-country team, the track team, is on the powerlifting team and she plays soccer but despite all the time she devotes to athletics, she also excels at academics; and

WHEREAS, Christie's achievement is part of a family tradition in the State Games as her sister was the 2009 Athlete of the Year and her brother, Dallas, is the 2012 Male Athlete of the Year; and

WHEREAS, the State Games is a statewide amateur sportsfest modeled after the Olympics; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by such an exemplary accomplishment as achieved by Christie Stricker, which brings honor to her family, community and state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Christie Stricker on being selected as the 2012 State Games of Mississippi AT&T Female Athlete of the Year and extend best wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Christie Stricker and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
