House Concurrent Resolution 74

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING DALLAS STRICKER UPON BEING NAMED THE 2012 STATE GAMES OF MISSISIPPI AT&T MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR.

WHEREAS, six-year-old Dallas Stricker from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, was selected as the State Games of Mississippi 2012 Male Athlete of the Year and as such he pesonifies the ideals of the State Games; and

WHEREAS, the State Games selects male and female nominees for athlete of the year from each of the 34 sports represented and Dallas won the Male Athlete of the Year and he also took home seven gold medals and one silver medal coming in second only to his older brother, Timothy, in the cross-country; and

WHEREAS, Dallas can bench press 26 pounds, squat 45 pounds and lift 65 pounds but Dallas only weighs 38 pounds which is indicative of his determination and athletic prowess; and

WHEREAS, Dallas' achievement is part of a family tradition in the State Games as his sister was the 2009 Athlete of the Year and his sister, Christie, is the 2012 Female Athlete of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Dallas has completed more than 20 races, including three 10Ks and three duathlons and in the State Games he competed in the 200-, 400- and 800-meter dash in track and field, cross-country, cycling, the 5K road race and powerlifting; and

WHEREAS, in his triumphant performance at the State Games Dallas not only won for his age bracket but he also beat out most of the adults with his time in cross-country and the 5K races; and

WHEREAS, the State Games is a statewide amateur sports fest modeled after the Olympics; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence especially when evidenced by such an exemplary accomplishment as achieved by Dallas Stricker which brings honor to his family, community and state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Dallas Stricker on being selected as the 2012 State Games of Mississippi AT&T Male Athlete of the Year and extend best wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dallas Stricker and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
