House Bill 1719

AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE HANCOCK COUNTY REGIONAL SOLID WASTE AUTHORITY TO CHANGE ITS FISCAL YEAR FROM THE PERIOD OF JULY 1 TO JUNE 30 OF EACH YEAR TO OCTOBER 1 TO SEPTEMBER 30 OF EACH YEAR; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. (1) Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 17-17-313, Mississippi Code of 1972, the Hancock County Regional Solid Waste Authority, or any other provisions of law to the contrary, in its discretion, is authorized to change its fiscal year from the period of July 1 to June 30 of each year to October 1 to September 30 of each year.

(2) The authority is also authorized to operate one short fiscal year lasting from June 30, 2013, to September 30, 2013, in order to effectively and proficiently transition into the fiscal year authorized under subsection (1) of this section.

(3) The board of the Hancock County Regional Solid Waste Authority shall prepare a budget for the authority for each fiscal year at least ninety (90) days before the beginning of each fiscal year, which shall be from October 1 to June 30 of each year, and shall submit such budget to the governing body of each member.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
