Senate Resolution 8

(As Adopted by Senate)

A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND SENATOR EZELL LEE FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE.

     WHEREAS, Senator Ezell Lee from Picayune, Mississippi, served with distinction 20 years in the Senate (1992-2011) and four years in the House of Representatives (1988-1992); and

     WHEREAS, Senator Ezell Lee is a Korean War Veteran, member of the Mississippi Army National Guard, a man of integrity and hard work, and a former Coach with a complete knowledge of Mississippi's education system and veteran support system, and there is an acknowledged respect of our esteemed colleague, gentleman and enlightened lawmaker; and

     WHEREAS, Ezell Lee served as Senator from District 47 in the Mississippi Senate.  District 47 is comprised of parts of Pearl River, Harrison, Jackson and Stone Counties; and

     WHEREAS, in the Senate, Ezell served as Chairman of the Veterans and Military Affairs Committee, which handles a wide variety of legislative issues, including veterans' rights and veterans' nursing home matters.  He also served on the Appropriations, Oil, Gas and Other Minerals, County Affairs, Ports and Marine Resources, Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and Public Utilities Committees.  He was also an active member of the PEER Committee; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Lee is a proud Veteran of the Korean War, and a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He is also a member of the Rotary Club and Lifetime Member of the University of Southern Mississippi Alumni Association and Pearl River Community College Alumni Association; and

     WHEREAS, Ezell Lee has four children:  Dodd, Phillip, Gay and Gina.  Lee is a member of the First Baptist Church of Picayune; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Lee's service has been marked by his commitment to success and recognized leadership, sound judgment and fairness.  He has set the highest standard in all of his many roles, as a father, coach, school administrator, military veteran, citizen, statesman and leader in the Mississippi Senate and as a true friend:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and recognize Senator Ezell Lee, whose outstanding service enriched everyone with whom he was associated, and we wish Ezell and his family much success in their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Senator Ezell Lee and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
