A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND SALUTING DR. ROBERT MADDUX (D.D.S.) OF HERNANDO, MISSISSIPPI, UPON BEING HONORED AS THE "2012 SEDATION DENTIST OF THE YEAR," THE FIRST RECIPIENT FROM THE SOUTHEASTERN UNITED STATES.

WHEREAS, the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation Education (DOCS) has announced that Dr. Robert Maddux has been named as the 2012 Sedation Dentist of the Year on March 16, 2012, signaling the conclusion of Sedation Safety Week. Dr. Maddux, a sedation and cosmetic dentist in Hernando, Mississippi, has been providing safe and successful sedation dentistry for ten years; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry, Dr. Maddux has also received a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Canterbury. He was named one of America's Top Dentists by the Consumer's Research Council of America. He was also voted "Best Dentist in DeSoto County" by the readers of the DeSoto Times newspaper; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Maddux is a Diplomate of DOCS Education, meaning that he has completed over 200 sedation cases and 200 hours of continuing sedation education, including five accepted articles in dental publications. He has completed courses in oral sedation dentistry, ACLS, advanced sedation, IV sedation and teen sedation with DOCS Education. Dr. Maddux is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, American Dental Association, Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation and The American Orthodontic Society. Dr. Maddux has lectured at Oxford University in England, Moscow University in Russia, Pepperdine University, China, Tibet and Cuba; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Michael Silverman, President of DOCS Education and Chairman of Sedation Safety Week, praises Maddux for his commitment to sedation dentistry and patient comfort. "Dr. Robert Maddux's dedication to his patients, family and safety is beyond reproach," Silverman states. "He has made extra efforts to obtain as much education as possible in the area of sedation and is always seeking ways to improve his own patient experiences"; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his daily practice, Maddux enjoys participating in mission work all over the world. He has completed volunteer dentistry in Africa, Ukraine, Honduras, Cuba and Venezuela; and

WHEREAS, DOCS Education offers courses throughout the United States and Canada illustrating safe and effective techniques in oral, pediatric and IV sedation dentistry as well as emergency preparedness. Since 1999, its faculty has instructed over 20,000 dental professionals in these procedures, which affect patients of all ages. Based in Seattle, Washington, DOCS Education was founded to address the estimated 92 million Americans who are fearful of dental care; and

WHEREAS, this award is an honor, not only for DeSoto County and the State of Mississippi, but for the entire mid-south region, as he is the first recipient of this award from the Southeastern United States; and it is with great pride that we note the special commendation of this Mississippi dentist who has been honored by his fellow professionals and has brought recognition to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and salute Dr. Robert Maddux (D.D.S) of Hernando, Mississippi, upon being honored as the "2012 Sedation Dentist of the Year" by Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation, and extend our best wishes to Dr. Maddux and his family on this auspicious occasion.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Dr. Maddux, forwarded to the Mississippi Dental Association, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
