A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND SALUTING SAMANTHA GOLDEN OF MERIDIAN AS MISS RODEO MISSISSIPPI 2012.

     WHEREAS, on January 14, 2012, Samantha Golden became the 38th young lady to have the distinct honor and privilege of wearing the crown of Miss Rodeo Mississippi 2012; and

     WHEREAS, as Miss Rodeo Mississippi 2012, she will represent Mississippi at all Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) events statewide and abroad, for a period of one year, and will compete for the title of Miss Rodeo America 2013, in Las Vegas, Nevada, December 2012; and

     WHEREAS, a 2010 honors graduate of Northeast Lauderdale High School in Meridian, Mississippi, Samantha participated in a wide range of activities including DECA, FFA and 4-H Horse Judging.  She now attends Mississippi State University where she is pursuing a Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting.  After graduation, she plans to complete a Master's degree in Accounting, while

completing the certification process to become a Therapeutic Equine Specialist; and

     WHEREAS, being both a rodeo competitor and enthusiast, Samantha was an active competitor throughout junior high and high school in the National Little Britches Rodeo Association (NLBRA), the National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA), the Red Hills Horse Show Association (RHHSA), and the Mid-South Little Britches Association (MSLBRA).  During her competitive years, she garnished several awards and titles, including:  All-Around Senior Girl Champion and Reserve All-Around Senior Girl Champion (MSLBRA), Silver Medalist in Barrel Racing at the Mississippi State Games, numerous Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Goat Tying, and Breakaway Champion and Reserve Champion Titles (MSLBRA, RHHSA and Mississippi State Horse Show Association), as well as a two-time National Wrangler Top Hand Team selectee; and

     WHEREAS, when Samantha is not promoting the sport of rodeo either in or out of the arena, she enjoys cooking, painting, traveling and reading classic novels.  She also loves to work with special needs children via horseback, as well as riding, training horses and giving riding lessons to young children; and

     WHEREAS, Samantha is excited about the opportunity to serve as Mississippi's First Lady of Professional Rodeo, and plans to

represent her state in the upmost regard wherever the title may take her, and it is with great pride that we commend this young citizen who will serve as an Ambassador for the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and salute Samantha Golden of Meridian for her selection as Miss Rodeo Mississippi 2012 and extend our best wishes to Samantha and her family as she represents Mississippi in the National and International PRCA events.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Samantha Golden, forwarded to the Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
