A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE OXFORD HIGH SCHOOL "LADY CHARGERS" GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH SHAYNE LINZY FOR THEIR UNDEFEATED 2011-2012 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, Oxford High School "Lady Chargers" Girls Basketball Team had one goal heading into the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 5A Girls State Title Game: Complete an undefeated season; and
WHEREAS, Dandy Dozen senior Erika Sisk was focused, and had no intention of ending her Oxford career with a loss. Sisk never came off the court on her way to a 20-point effort and the Lady Chargers topped the Lady Braves 62-54; and
WHEREAS, the title was Oxford's fourth and its first since 1998, the last of an historic three-peat. Ranked No. 2 in the Super 10 at the start of the State Playoffs, the Lady Chargers made a case to be No. 1 in the final rankings; and
WHEREAS, Erika Sisk, Oxford's Senior Floor General, led the Lady Chargers to a 24-4 record last season and to the Class 5A North State Tournament. Sisk averaged 21 points, 4.7 steals, 4.3 assists and 3.6 rebounds. This was her fourth year as a starter for the Lady Chargers, who started the season ranked No. 7 in the Super 10, shot 53% from the floor, scored a career-high 36 points against New Hope, scored 12 points to help lead the North to a victory in the Mississippi High School All-Star Game, and verbally committed to play next season at Murray State. "Erika's leadership has been big for us," says Oxford Coach Shayne Linzy. "What really sets her apart is she has such a high basketball IQ. She knows the game and calls the game for me; and defensively, she is everywhere. She is unselfish and likes to see her teammates make the big play"; and
WHEREAS, the Oxford High School "Lady Chargers" Girls Basketball Team roster is as follows: Moe Pegues, G; Amber Sisk, G; Jasmine Thompson, PG/G; Erika Sisk, PG; Kayla Wells, G; Jasmine Patton, G/P; Tierra Certion, F; Kristen Dickerson, G/PG; Asia Petties, W; Aulyshia Booker, G/PG; Chynna Knight, G; Ivory Alexander, G/F; Meisha Gillom, F; Alexus Malone, F/G; Tyra Lewis, F; and Head Coach Shayne Linzy; and
