A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND SALUTING THE OUTSTANDING RECORDS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY TENNIS TEAMS FOR THE YEARS 1965-1968 ON THE OCCASION OF THE REUNION OF THESE FORMER TEAM MEMBERS.
WHEREAS, the Mississippi State University Tennis Teams from the seasons in 1965-1968 were among the most successful athletic teams for the university and in the state. The members of these Championship Teams are holding a first-ever reunion on April 19-22, 2012; and
WHEREAS, the following are some of the athletic highlights of these excellent teams:
· The 1965 MSU Tennis Team record was 13-1;
· In 1965, the MSU Tennis Team won the first Southeastern Conference (SEC) Tennis Championship ever for Mississippi State University;
· In 1965, the MSU Tennis Team finished number 8 in the Nation in the final rankings of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA);
· The 1965 MSU Tennis Team members were: Bobby Brien, Graham Primrose, Orlando Bracamonte, Tito Echiburu, Mack Cameron, Robert Dean, Phil Livingston, Hagan Staton and Manager George Biddle;
· In 1966, the MSU Tennis Team record was 12-2;
· In 1966, the MSU Tennis Team finished second by one point in the Southeastern Conference Tennis Championship;
· In 1966, the MSU Tennis Team finished tied for third in the Nation in the final rankings of the National Collegiate Athletic Association;
· The 1966 MSU Tennis Team members were: Bobby Brien, Tito Echiburu, John Edmonds, Hugh Thomson, Mack Cameron and Hagan Staton;
· The 1967 MSU Tennis Team record was 18-4;
· The 1967 MSU Tennis Team won the second ever Southeastern Conference Tennis Championship for Mississippi State University;
· The 1967 MSU Tennis Team finished tied for number 3 in the Nation in the final rankings of the National Collegiate Athletic Association;
· The 1967 MSU Tennis Team members were: Bobby Brien, Gary Hockey, John Edmonds, Hugh Thomson, Glen Grisillo and Rob Cadwallader;
· The 1968 MSU Tennis Team was undefeated with a record of 16-0 in teams matches;
· The 1968 MSU Tennis Team finished second in the Southeastern Conference Tennis Championship;
· The 1968 MSU Tennis Team finished tied for number 13 in the Nation in the final rankings of the National Collegiate Athletic Association;
· The 1968 MSU Tennis Team members were: Rob Cadwallader, John Edmonds, Pierre Lamarche, Hugh Thomson, Glen Grisillo, Mack Cameron and Gary Hockey;
· Mississippi State University Tennis Teams during the 1965-1968 time period are among the most highly successful sports teams in the history of Mississippi State University and the State of Mississippi;
· Mississippi State University Tennis Teams during the 1965-1968 time period were recruited and coached by MSU Tennis Coach Tom Sawyer, who was inducted into the Mississippi State University Sports Hall of Fame in 1975 and into the State of Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 1982;
· Mississippi State University Tennis Team members during the 1965-1968 time period who have been inducted into the State of Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame are Bobby Brien (1985) and Mack Cameron (1999);
· Mississippi State University Tennis Team members during the 1965-1968 time period who have been inducted into the Mississippi State University Sports Hall of Fame are: Bobby Brien (1981), Graham Primrose (1983), Mack Cameron (1984), Tito Echiburu (1987), Hugh Thomson (1985), and Rob Cadwallader (1994); and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we remember the successes of these university athletes who brought honor to their university and their communities and who have become leading citizens in the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and salute the outstanding records and accomplishments of the Mississippi State University Tennis Teams for the years 1965-1968 and extend our best wishes to the members of these teams and their families on the occasion of their reunion on April 19-22, 2012.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the MSU Tennis Alumnae group, forwarded to the President of Mississippi State University and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
