Senate Concurrent Resolution 580

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BRANDON HIGH SCHOOL "LADY BULLDOGS" GIRLS SOCCER TEAM AND COACH CELESTE BRAMLETT FOR WINNING ITS FIRST-EVER MHSAA CLASS 6A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Brandon High School "Lady Bulldogs" Girls Soccer Team has had a simple motto since January: "Take it." On February 4, 2012, Brandon did just that, stunning top-ranked and previously unbeaten Tupelo 1-0 for the Class 6A Title; and

WHEREAS, it was the first State Title in school history for the third-ranked Lady Bulldogs (20-2-3); and

WHEREAS, "I have never been more proud of a group of girls," said Brandon Coach Celeste Bramlett, a 1998 Brandon graduate. "I asked them to leave it all on the field and don't walk off this field with one regret. Every game we play, we are not there just to compete or earn a State Championship. We are taking a State Championship"; and

WHEREAS, Brandon scored the game's only goal in the 55th minute on Katelyn Watson's header on a corner kick from senior midfielder Lauren Quintero. It was just the seventh goal allowed all season by Tupelo (22-1), ranked No. 1 nationally by MaxPreps among the eight states that play winter soccer - Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada and Texas; and

WHEREAS, moments after hoisting the trophy, the "Lady Bulldogs" broke the huddle with one final chant: "Took It!"; and

WHEREAS, the Brandon High School "Lady Bulldogs" Girls 2011-2012 winter soccer roster is as follows: Katelyn Watson (C) D, MF; Lauren Marler MF; Autumn Belcher D; Brittany Farrar (C) D; Emily Breland F, MF; Lacey Leddy GK; Mary Clark Joyner (C) MF; Taylor Ballard MF; Sarah Keeton Odom F, MF; Lexie Turner F; Laura Quintero MF; Bailey McCarver MF, D; Kayla Love D, MF; Hannah Bailey D, MF; Carlee Leber D; Abbi Jordan D; Emily McGowan F; Presley McLemore F; Ashlan Culberson F, MF; Katie Pearson D, GK; Breanna Green F, MF; and Sarah Dongieux D, F; and Coach Celeste Bramlett; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this first-ever achievement by a group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Brandon High School "Lady Bulldogs" Girls Soccer Team and Coach Celeste Bramlett for winning its first-ever Mississippi High School Athletic Association Class 6A State Championship, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future athletic and academic success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Bramlett and Principal Buddy Bailey for the team, forwarded to the Rankin County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
