Senate Concurrent Resolution 543

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE PICAYUNE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL "MAROON TIDE" CHEERLEADERS SQUAD AND COACHES HEIDI ARTHUR AND JESSICA SMITH FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Picayune Jr. High School "Maroon Tide" Cheerleaders Squad traveled to Ridgeland, Mississippi, on November 19, 2011, to compete in the Mississippi High School Activities Association Junior High/Junior Varsity Cheer Competition.  Picayune Junior High School was awarded top honors, winning First Place, making them the Mississippi High School Activities Association 5A Champions; and

     WHEREAS, Picayune Junior High School Cheerleaders are under the expert direction of Coaches Heidi Arthur and Jessica Smith; and

     WHEREAS, members of Picayune Junior High School Cheerleaders Squad who were selected by the Universal Cheerleading Association for the All American Squad in 2011 were:  Ryley Dawsey, Rachel Smith, Dikeria Myers, Kennedi Goff and Caroline Whitfield.  The Squad also placed second in the Pearl Invitational Cheerleaders Competition held in 2011; and

     WHEREAS, the Picayune Junior High School 2011-2012 Cheerleading Roster:  Dikeria Myers, Ryley Dawsey (Captain), Caroline Whitfield, Kennedi Goff, Kelsey Leonard, Maurisha Lull, Hailey Bernard, Rachel Smith (Captain), Jesse Woody, Alyssa Pinero, Hannah Walker, Addison Smith and Caroline Stockstill; and

     WHEREAS, Picayune Junior High School is located in Picayune, Mississippi, and is one of two middle schools in the Picayune School District.  It is a public school that serves 553 students in Grades 7th and 8th; and

     WHEREAS, it is with pride that we recognize the accomplishments of this group of young student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Picayune Junior High School "Maroon Tide" Cheerleaders Squad and Coaches Heidi Arthur and Jessica Smith for winning the 2011 Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 5A State Championship, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future academic and athletic success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coaches Heidi Arthur and Jessica Smith, Principal James Williams and Superintendent Dean Shaw for the team, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
