House Resolution 106

A RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING UNION GROVE COMMUNITY FOR WINNING SECOND PLACE IN MISSISSIPPI'S ANNUAL KEEP MISSISSIPPI BEAUTIFUL COMPETITION IN 2012.

     WHEREAS, the Union Grove Community won second place in the state's annual Keep Mississippi Beautiful Competition; and

     WHEREAS, Ruby Warnsley, facilitator for Union Grove's clean-up, accepted the trophy on behalf of the Union Grove Community; and

     WHEREAS, the trophy is on display at Patrick Community Center, which has served as the host site for annual community clean-up for the past four years; and

     WHEREAS, the 32nd Annual Union Grove Community Clean-up included bags, gloves, food, water, first-aid, rest, good company, picking up bags and many other activities at the center from Wednesday through Tuesday; and

     WHEREAS, residents on Highway 21 between Old Jackson Road and King Road and others such as Annie Sue Johnson, Clara Spivey, Patricia Patrick, Myrtle Hawkins, Merits Banks, Emma Wash, Lenora Bell, Irma Dean Johnson, Margaret Patrick, Andre' Brown, Jason Smith, Shirley B. Patrick, Mary Ann Hunt, Dora Ann Patrick, Larry  Dean Patrick, Melba Jean Hawkins and Christiania Hawkins helped to initiate and motivate others to participate in the annual community clean-up; and

     WHEREAS, the anti-litter program helps to beautify the neighborhoods, thereby increasing the property value and decreasing the rate of crime by working together and strengthening the community; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize communities such as Union Grove that are working diligently to keep Mississippi beautiful:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Union Grove Community for winning second place in the 2012 Annual Keep Mississippi Beautiful Competition.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Union Grove Community and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
