House Resolution 104

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MRS. FANNIE BRADFORD FOR 28 YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS A DISTRICT ONE ELECTION COMMISSIONER FOR SCOTT COUNTY.

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Fannie Bradford has tirelessly served as election commissioner for District One in Scott County for 28 years and has registered hundreds of voters during her tenure; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Bradford is retiring at the tender age of 87 from this prestigious post; and

     WHEREAS, when Mrs. Bradford was elected in 1984, she became the first black female election commissioner elected to the position in Scott County; and

     WHEREAS, born on December 27, 1924, in Indianapolis, Indiana, as a Hoosier, she graduated valedictorian in 1945; and

     WHEREAS, she was married 42 years to the love of her life, Leon Bradford, before he passed this life; and

     WHEREAS, throughout her life, she has been active in numerous organizations, such as the NAACP, the AARP, the Scott County Improvements Association, where she served as treasurer for 20 years and the Scott County Home-maker Club; and

     WHEREAS, she has been honored by many organizations, such as the East Central Federated Women's Club, State and National Federation of Colored Women, the NAACP, the Lone Pilgrim Chapter of Eastern Star and the Mississippi Election Commissioners; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representative to commend dedicated Mississippians, such as Mrs. Fannie Bradford, who serve our community and state to improve our election process:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Mrs. Fannie Bradford for 28 years of dedicated service as election commissioner and wish her continued success upon retirement.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Fannie Bradford and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
