House Resolution 103

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MONICA EDWARDS OF GREENE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL UPON BEING AWARDED THE ALAN R. BARTON EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AWARD.

WHEREAS, Monica Edwards, a resident of Leakesville, Mississippi, and a teacher at Greene County High School, has been honored with the prestigious Alan R. Barton Excellence in Teaching Award by Mississippi Power; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Greene County High School, Jones County Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi, she has taught in Greene County for more than eight years; and

WHEREAS, she currently teaches computer, business education and leadership classes at Greene County High School, and she is using the award money to purchase additional software and books for her classes to provide her students with up-to-date material; and

WHEREAS, Edwards has also used the award money to purchase high-end technology for her classroom to expand the tools her students can use to learn; and

WHEREAS, she said the most rewarding aspect of the award was getting to hear her students speak about what a tremendous difference she makes in their lives, and she was touched by their heartfelt comments; and

WHEREAS, Edwards credits her role models she followed when she was a student for endowing her with a love for teaching; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence especially when evidenced by superior accomplishments such as those demonstrated by Monica Edwards:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Monica Edwards of Greene County High School upon being awarded the Alan R. Barton Excellence in Teaching Award by Mississippi Power, and extend sincerest wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Monica Edwards, Greene County High School and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
