A RESOLUTION COMMENDING JERONTAY CLEMONS OF THE COLDWATER HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM ON BEING NAMED 2012 MISS BASKETBALL BY THE CLARION-LEDGER AS MISSISSIPPI'S TOP GIRLS PLAYER.

     WHEREAS, Jerontay Clemons, star of the Coldwater High School Girls Basketball Team, was named 2012 Miss Basketball by The Clarion-Ledger as Mississippi's top girls player; and

     WHEREAS, the Southern Miss signee is the first Coldwater player to be named Miss Basketball, and she averaged an incredible 30.1 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Cougars to the Class 1A State Championship game; and

     WHEREAS, Clemons, a 5'8" guard, enjoyed many wins during her career, including helping the Lady Cougars win the title as an eighth-grader and leading her team to the title game as a freshman, junior and senior; and

     WHEREAS, she helped lead the Magnolia State to a 94-91 victory in the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star game with a record-tying 35 points; and

     WHEREAS, her coach, Wert Spiva, declared, "No doubt, she's the epitome of what our program is built on.  She is a student of the game and loves to play the game and is a fierce competitor.  She loves to win."; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence especially when evidenced by superior accomplishments such as those shown by Jerontay Clemons:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Jerontay Clemons on being named the 2012 Miss Basketball by The Clarion-Ledger as Mississippi's top girls player and helping lead the Coldwater High School Girls Basketball Team to the Class 1A State Championship game, and we extend sincerest wishes for continued success in all of her future academic and athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Jerontay Clemons, Coldwater High School and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
