House Resolution 94

(As Adopted by House)

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING JOEL BOMGAR FOR BEING THE INNOVATIVE FORCE THAT CREATED BOMGAR CORPORATION, AN INTERNATIONAL INDUSTRY LEADER IN TECHNOLOGICAL SUPPORT SOFTWARE.

WHEREAS, Joel Bomgar is the founder, creator and leading

innovative force of Bomgar Corporation, a Ridgeland-based company

that employs 175 employees and serves 6,000 clients in 65

countries; and

WHEREAS, ranked as the #1 fastest growing technology company in the state, Bomgar Corporation is recognized by industry analysts, professional associations and industry publications for its award-winning Enterprise Remote Support Solution, which has fundamentally changed how companies around the world deliver remote IT support; and

WHEREAS, Bomgar grew from a dorm room project while young  Joel Bomgar was a student at Belhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi, and working as a field network engineer for a Jackson-based systems integrator in 2002 to help pay his college tuition; and

WHEREAS, spending countless hours driving to client calls in his nonair-conditioned 1979 Buick LeSabre, often spending more time traveling than it took to solve the client's problem, Joel began to search for a solution that would allow him to access and manage his customers' computers over the Internet, and after many futile attempts, Joel developed his own technology, spending many nights coding and developing a functional remote support solution; and

WHEREAS, after finalizing his product, Joel set up a static website and designed a brochure marketing his ground-breaking innovation and waited to see if there would, in fact, be a customer base for his idea; and

WHEREAS, Joel's vision and intuitive perseverance began to pay off when he had made $24,000.00 in less than two months, which  convinced him that he had discovered a significant market opportunity in the technology support world; and

WHEREAS, wanting to capitalize on this new opportunity, Joel enlisted the help of two of his friends and fellow-Belhaven resident assistants, Nathan McNeill and Patrick Norman, and quickly, the three began working on ways to develop the business venture; and

WHEREAS, with very little knowledge of the formalities of starting a business, the trio just decided to do what they knew,  Joel continued to write code and handle customer calls, Nathan focused on sales and support, and Patrick focused on marketing, an approach that allowed the team to experience a revenue growth from zero to $100,000.00 within six months of their college graduation; and

WHEREAS, because of the technologies offered by Bomgar Corporation, customers have been able to considerably reduce costs and improve remote support with a greater efficiency, while the company constantly rededicates its resources to bettering customer satisfaction; and

WHEREAS, Joel is now a leading industry expert in remote support and serves on numerous technology and public policy boards and has appeared on programs, such as ABC News' "Ahead of the Curve," was a finalist in the 2009 Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award for the Houston and Gulf Coast Area Program, named Mississippian of the Year by the Association of Information Technology Professionals and accepted into the Young Presidents' Organization, the world's largest network of company Presidents and CEOs; and

WHEREAS, in addition to Joel's personal individual success the Bomgar Corporation's rapid growth has been celebrated with numerous awards, including Deloitte's Fast 500 in 2007 and 2008, and Inc. Magazine's Inc. 500 in 2008 and 2009; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend, recognize and encourage continued development in this great state, such as those technological developments made by Joel and Bomgar Corporation, that drive consumers to Mississippi and further our state's stand in the technology world:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and recognize the innovative technological developments and entrepreneurial skills of Joel Bomgar and extend best wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Joel Bomgar, Bomgar Corporation and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
