House Resolution 88

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BOONEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL BLUE DEVILS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2011-2012 SEASON AND FOR FINISHING AS RUNNER-UP OF THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Booneville High School Blue Devils Boys Basketball Team finished the 2011-2012 season with an outstanding record of 31-4 and demonstrated athletic fortitude and prowess to finish as runner-up of the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, after a triumphant historic run on the hardwood last year in pursuit of Booneville's first state title since its last championship in 1963, the Blue Devils once again embarked upon a climactic journey of athletic success to make a second consecutive appearance at the Big House as contenders for the Class 3A State Championship, in their quest for golden glory; and

WHEREAS, throughout their season of play, the Blue Devils have faced off with some of the state's best contenders on the hard court, but persevered to make their presence and talent known by capturing the Division 1-3A Tournament Championship and the 3A North-Half Championship on their redemptive road to greatness; and

WHEREAS, the Blue Devils team is comprised of: Darius Leach, Keldrick Lesley, Shaq Prather, Jake Hall, Jordan Miller, Jazz Prather, A.J. Grizzard, Antonio Crump, Kenny Paul Geno, Evan Smith, Isaiah Witherspoon, Joseph Caver, Jack Nichols, Andrew Lambert, Bonner Powell, Zeus Rogers, Jack Simpson and Demarcus Young; and managers, Logan Agnew, Wesley Tye, Keenan Gardner, Josh Presley and Malek Justice; and

WHEREAS, the Blue Devils have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Michael Smith and Assistant Coaches Brian Windham and Micah Moment, along with the athletic conditioning and training of Jock Calamese, who have broadened the Blue Devils' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Coach Smith continues to build upon the legacy of superior play and true sportsmanship forged by the tenacious and undaunted spirit of each team member, as evidenced in his ability to produce high caliber players and plays, by the team's successful season; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Booneville High School Blue Devils Boys Basketball Team and their coaches, Michael Smith, Brian Windham and Micah Moment, for their outstanding 2011-2012 season, for finishing as runner-up of the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Booneville High School, Head Coach Michael Smith, Assistant Coaches Brian Windham and Micah Moment, Athletic Trainer Jock Calamese and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
