A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING WORLD WAR II VETERAN, LEROY WORSHAM, OF CORINTH, MISSISSIPPI, UPON BEING SELECTED BY HONOR FLIGHT TO VISIT THE WORLD WAR II MEMORIAL IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

     WHEREAS, a man of The Greatest Generation, Mr. Leroy Worsham of Corinth, Mississippi, has been selected by Honor Flight as one of 90 World War II Veterans to have the privilege to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.; and

     WHEREAS, upon joining the United States Army, Mr. Worsham was assigned to the Army Air Corps, the forerunner of what would eventually become the United States Air Force; and

     WHEREAS, after spending a year in the Airborne Engineers, Mr. Worsham attended Officer Candidate School in Australia, where upon graduation, he was assigned to the 310 Bombardment Wing where he served throughout the Pacific during the final years of the war; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Worsham spent a year in Japan after the end of the war to aid in the rebuilding effort following Japan's surrender; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Worsham, at the age of 93, will travel alongside his fellow veterans to Washington, D.C., on April 24, 2012, to visit the memorial built to honor the 16 million members of the Armed Forces including 400,000 who died while serving the United States during the war; and

     WHEREAS, Honor Flight, a nonprofit group from Springfield, Ohio, was founded in 2005, and on its first trip, it took a dozen veterans to the memorial; and

     WHEREAS, the expansion of Honor Flight has given a great number of veterans the opportunity to see the memorial that was built in their honor, with Honor Flight having 66 chapters across the country focused on providing these free memorial trips to America's greatest heroes; and

     WHEREAS, although he has been to this nation's capital before, Mr. Worsham has not been since the construction of the World War II Memorial, and he is anxious to see this tribute to our nation's finest; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Worsham is looking forward to seeing the World War II Memorial and other sights around Washington, D.C., but most of all, he is looking forward to spending time with such a large group of his fellow veterans; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor our veterans, such as Mr. Worsham, who are members of this nation's Greatest Generation, and to whom each citizen who drinks from freedom's fountain owes a tremendous debt of gratitude:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Leroy Worsham upon his selection by Honor Flight to travel to Washington, D.C., to visit the World War II Memorial, built to honor our nation's greatest heroes, and wish continued health and happiness in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Worsham and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
