House Resolution 78

A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND AND ENCOURAGE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF CHINA (TAIWAN) AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, AND TO WELCOME THE HONORABLE DIRECTOR GENERAL DANIEL T.C. LIAO AND THE HONORABLE DIRECTOR JAMES WEI TO THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the State of Mississippi have nurtured and maintained a friendship of unwavering bonds that will be beneficial and rewarding for both governments and their citizens now and in the future; and

     WHEREAS, the State of Mississippi has developed a strong relationship with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office which works to continually support and encourage strong cooperation between our respective business communities; and

     WHEREAS, Director General Daniel T.C. Liao of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston, Texas, along with Director James Wei, graciously visit the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Director General Liao is a graduate the National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, where he obtained a bachelor of arts degree in foreign language and literature, and he is a graduate of Pacific State University where he obtained a doctorate degree in business administration; and

     WHEREAS, having begun his career working for the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in 1981 as a desk officer for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of North American Affairs, Director General Liao has since held numerous positions within his nation's government; and

     WHEREAS, prior to becoming a director general at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Director General Liao was the Ambassador to Tuvalu for the Republic of China (Taiwan) from 2006 until 2008; and

     WHEREAS, the Republic of China (Taiwan) is recognized as a nation with exemplary economic and environmental progress, including substantial progress in the aviation industry, for many years; and

     WHEREAS, great advantages would result in the participation of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in the International Civil Aviation Organization and United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change; and

     WHEREAS, the citizens of the State of Mississippi happily embrace the unshakeable and indestructible ties between this state and the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the continued growth of the freedom that comes with these strong ties as our governments look forward to many years of continued cooperation and friendship that are sure to come; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to promote and maintain viable relationships with industrious and conscientious nations:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and encourage the relationship between the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the State of Mississippi, and welcome the Honorable Director General Daniel T.C. Liao and Director James Wei to the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution shall be furnished to Director General Liao, Director Wei and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
